FOR & OF: 2 small words that make a BIG difference

1. Do you have a picture for your family?
2. Do you have a picture of your family?

Bas ana 3arfa ana ba'oul eh! wa 3arfa that this is a BIG mistake.
Do you have a picture for your family? = do you have a picture (that I can give your family). A picture for them...nede'halhom ya nas!!
Do you have a picture of your family? = do you have a picture (that is taken of them. Sourithom homa ya3nee).
El moshkila is because you are translating from Arabic to English...(3andak soura leehom). But this is one of the things you can't translate because it will come out wrong.
I have a picture of myself; I have a painting of my mother; I have a book of my friend....(of here = soura le nafsee, rasma le mom, kitab (beta3) my friend.
I have a picture for myself; I have a painting for my mother (for here= soura hadeha le nafsee; rasma hadeha le momtee).

Maybe you think this isn't a big mistake, but look here and you will understand more that kilmit 'for' dee istikhdamha mish 3amal 3ala batal!!
1. She's pretty for an Egyptian.= Halwa be raghm inha masreya.
2. He's intelligent for an Egyptian = zaki be raghm in howa masree.
(3ayzeen te'oululee in el gomal dol mish BIG mistakes???)
3. He's athletic for his age = reyadee be raghm sinu. (here it does not have a negative meaning as the previous 2 sentences).
Fahmeen what I'm telling you!! If you understand it from the blog, then by now you should agree with me that of and for can cause BIG mistakes if you don't use them correctly.
